Justice for Beng Hock

The death of Teoh Beng Hock, a DAP political secretary is a tragedy, another tragedy of a healthy Malaysian whom died in the custody of a Malaysian law enforcement agency, the MACC or Anti corruption agency or whatever you call them this time.

Malaysians are all too familiar with the death of Kugan who died in the custody of the police and all the cover-up which surrounded his death, or rather murder which i personally believe and perhaps a significant number of Malaysians believe too.

One can speculate about what actually happened and we will leave the investigations to those who are responsible for it. Whether the investigations come up with a satisfactory explanation for this incident is a separate issue altogether. One such incident is one too many and whatever the truth is, whether the Malaysian public would ever know, some facts have been established. The fact is Beng Hock was brought in for questioning by the MACC. He was brought to the building by the MACC and hours later, his body was found at the MACC building.

Whether Beng Hock was murdered or he committed suicide, we may never know and at this point it would be speculation even though there seems to be no reason for him to commit suicide. There is no reason for a person who is getting married the next day and becoming a father to take his own life. However, that is not something we can prove at this point and we shall leave it be.

Every fact which has been established at this moment points to the MACC being at fault. There might be murderers there or there might not be. Even if this whole incident was a suicide or an 'accident' it was one which could have been prevented and the MACC has to be responsible. The fact is he was brought to the building by the MACC. He never left the building and hence he should still be in the care of the MACC and this tragedy occurred while Beng Hock was in the care of the MACC. As in the case of Kugan, whether a person is a suspect or a witness, guilty or innocent, they have the right to be kept safe while being in the care of any law enforcement agency. It is as simple a matter as a person who walks into any normal building having the right to walk out of it safe and alive. In this incident and that of Kugan, obviously this did not happen and those who should be held responsible are obvious.

Yes I am pointing the finger at the MACC. At this point i don't care if they are murderers or not, they should be responsible for this incident. To salvage whatever little faith the public has in them, heads must roll. Obviously this is not something Malaysians are used to, where people in power and position actually take responsibility or are held responsible for incidents, tragedies and scandals that happen. The least the MACC could do at this moment is to take responsibility for this incident. I stand corrected but no matter what the investigation reveals and all the possible permutations of the truth of this incident that my imagination has allowed me to develop, the MACC still seems responsible to varying degrees of this tragedy. As a Malaysian i ask that they be responsible and be held responsible.

My deepest condolences and sympathy to the family, loved ones and friends of Teoh Beng Hock.
